20th Week Appointment

If I know what love is…it is because of you.

Our 20 week appointment arrived rather quickly. Actually, since the baby was a week behind what my gestational age was supposed to be, it was my 19th week appointment. We were so excited to find out how the baby was doing and what the gender was.

My friend agreed to help us with the gender reveal, which we planned to do via webcam with my husband’s and my parents. She had edible arrangements dip their strawberries in the gender color (pink or blue). It was then covered by their milk chocolate, so the gender would be revealed when we bit into them. She placed an order for us, my parents, and my husband’s parents to pick up. Which we did later that day after I gave her the envelope (more on this later).

When we arrived for the anatomy scan, an ultrasound tech from maternal fetal medicine who does these scans for my OB was ready for us… Unfortunately the baby was not ready for her.  Little one was being difficult and was in a terrible position.  It was turned so that its spine was facing outward and the front of it was facing my back.  The tech did the best she could, showing us various body parts along the way, but ultimately there were 2 views of the heart that she couldn’t see because of the position. We were scheduled to come back 2ish weeks later to try again to get those two images.

Later that evening my husband and I went to pick up the chocolate covered gender reveal berries and couldn’t wait to video chat with our families while all of us participated in the reveal. Unfortunately, when I went to sign for the berries, the gender color was written on the pick up form. I sadly discovered the baby’s gender well before the reveal because of how Edible Arrangements places details on all their receipts. I went back to the car with berries in my hand and tears in my eyes. My husband asked what was wrong and I told him about the mishap. He wasn’t too happy. I never revealed the gender to him, I still wanted it to be a surprise for one of us.

Once home we called our parents on video and proceed with the gender reveal. We were thrilled to find out…

IT WAS A GIRL!!!

Neither of us truly cared what we had. We were both happy with whatever. Now that we knew what it was, I was able to plan little accents for her nursery and we could start picking out names.

Two-ish weeks later, our follow up anatomy scan proved the same issue with little-miss-diva. She didn’t want to cooperate. My OB set me up with a local MFM office who would “definitely” be able to get the images needed. That was scheduled for another two-ish weeks later. Until then, I was planning a nursery, buying the cutest baby girl clothes, and helping my mom plan a shower for me. I was in a state of bliss.
